Tetrahydrofuran (THF) is an organic solvent widely used in the chemical industry with good solubility and volatility. However, due to its flammable and explosive properties, the following professional matters must be noted when using THF to ensure safety and effectiveness.
Personal protective measures:
When using THF, appropriate personal protective measures must be taken to protect your own safety. First of all, personal protective equipment such as chemical protective gloves, protective glasses and protective clothing should be worn. Chemical protective gloves should be made of materials compatible with THF, such as nitrile rubber or polyethylene. Protective glasses should have anti-chemical splash function to prevent THF from splashing into the eyes. Protective clothing should be made of materials compatible with THF to avoid THF irritation and damage to the skin.
Ventilation facilities:
THF should be used in a well-ventilated area. When using THF, be sure to ensure that the workplace has good ventilation facilities to reduce the concentration of THF vapor. Ventilation facilities can be achieved through exhaust systems, fans or open operations. When using THF in a closed space, consider using local exhaust equipment or explosion-proof ventilation equipment.
Avoid inhalation: THF vapor is toxic to a certain extent. Inhaling too much THF vapor may cause dizziness, drowsiness, nausea and other discomfort symptoms. Therefore, when using THF, you should try to avoid inhaling THF vapor. The concentration of THF vapor can be reduced by using local exhaust equipment, wearing respiratory protection equipment (such as a gas mask), or keeping the operating area ventilated. Prevent skin contact: THF can be absorbed through the skin, and long-term contact with THF may cause chronic toxicity. Therefore, when using THF, direct contact with the skin should be avoided. If necessary, chemical protective gloves and protective clothing should be worn to reduce the contact of THF with the skin. If skin contact occurs, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical help. Avoid contact with open flames and high-temperature objects: Since THF has a low flash point (-17℃), it must be kept away from open flames and high-temperature objects when using it to avoid fire or explosion accidents. Avoid placing THF near heating equipment or in direct sunlight. Waste disposal: Waste after THF use should be disposed of in accordance with relevant regulations. Avoid discharging THF waste into sewers, soil or groundwater to avoid environmental pollution. Waste THF should be properly packaged and handed over to professional waste disposal agencies for disposal.
Prevent static electricity accumulation:
Since THF has a low flash point, static electricity sparks may cause fires. Therefore, when using THF, static electricity sparks should be avoided. The risk of static electricity accumulation and discharge can be reduced by using anti-static equipment, grounding facilities and explosion-proof electrical appliances.
What should you pay attention to when storing THF
The influence of physical properties on the selection of PBT raw materials
